Position: Life Skills Coordinator

Pam Newton joined the Cal State Fullerton Athletics Department in November 2014 as the Titans’ first life skills coordinator for Athletic Academic Services.

Newton is not a new face to Cal State Fullerton as she has been on campus as a student-athlete and coach dating back several decades.

Under the direction of the Associate Athletics Director and Director of Athletics Academic Services, Newton is responsible for the overall development, planning, and implementation of a comprehensive NCAA CHAMPS Life Skills Program. She manages all aspects of the program, designed to enhance the student-athlete experience within the University setting by coordinating educational programs that address the five pillars: Academics, Athletics, Career Development, Personal Development, and Service Commitment.

The programming development includes a variety of workshops, community service opportunities, speakers on important  topics such as career development, gambling, drug and alcohol abuse, sexual assault, diversity and inclusion, proper nutrition, eating disorders, time and stress management.

Since 2015, Newton has been responsible for holding the department’s annual Fullerton Athletics Career Expo (FACE), which is an opportunity for student-athletes at Cal State Fullerton to network and engage personally with prospective employers and help prepare for life after their time at CSF.

Newton returned to Cal State Fullerton in fall 2012 to complete her education and serve as an undergraduate assistant softball coach for then first-year head coach Kelly Ford. She was with the program for the 2013 and 2014 seasons before graduating with a bachelor’s degree in American Studies in May of 2014.

As a former CSF softball student-athlete, Newton competed for Cal State Fullerton for two seasons in 1982 and 1983, helping the Titans to a third-place finish at the first-ever NCAA sponsored Women's College World Series in 1982. The former second baseman anchored the infield for the 1983 national runners-up squad and was named to the all-tournament team for her efforts.

Before coming to Fullerton Newton had a standout career at Mt. SAC,where she competed for two years earning all-state honors, among others, and was inducted into the Mt. SAC Hall of Fame in March for the class of 2013.

Over the years, Newton founded Pam Newton's All American Softball Club in 1992 and has been training young talent ever since. As a USA Softball coaching staff member her Jr. National Teams earned the gold medal at the Pan American Championships in 2002 and won silver at the VII ISF Junior Women's Softball World Championships. She has been named USA Olympic Committee Softball Development Coach of the Year twice.

She is currently a member of the Titan Letterman’s Club and the Cal State Fullerton Alumni Association.

From 1985-87, Newton was an assistant softball coach at Pasadena City College, and was the head softball coach at Concordia University (Irvine) from 1987-88.

Newton has recently entered into the Masters of Education with Emphasis in Higher Education at Cal State Fullerton.
